The Value of a Memory

You must not take for granted,
The joyful moments of your past,
And treasure every memory,
For in old age they rarely last.

Visualise your childhood years,
And paint pictures in your mind,
Of all the things you loved back then,
And people you knew were kind.

Carry these images with you always,
And consult them if your sad,
far better than a magic tonic,
Childhood memories make you glad.

So always try and remember,
Birthdays can age both you and me,
But eternal life is forever,
In the value of a memory.

  1. May I have permission to print your poem about childhood memories and display it with my sixth graders’ self- portraits? It is lovely.
